The Messianic Way

Our Freedom in Messiah

Often I get asked in some fashion, ‘do you follow the Torah at all’?  Of which I usually respond, ‘every jot and title’.  Because believing in the One God sent, Yeshua, is eternal life.  To both Yisrael and the Gentiles.  Faith in the words Yeshua gave his disciples produces observance to the Spirit which glorifies God, and produces a life of righteousness.

Many Christians believe they are free from the law of God, as given through Moshe to Yisrael.  And they are correct, as it was never given to them, so as to make them a slave (servant) to it.  Yet, some of these same Christians believe that since Yeshua forgives our sins and remembers them no more, that all the sin we commit in our life is of no consequence.  The more we sin, the more Yeshua can bless us in forgiving them.

They seem to believe that they can not help from sinning, that Messiah has not returned to wipe out sin and evil from the world.  So therefore, I will sin throughout this life, it’s impossible not to sin.  But Messiah loves us and will never reject us, even in our sin.  This is a gross misrepresentation of the words spoken by our Messiah.

The same way, many Messianic believers say they are in dwelt with the Spirit of God which draws them into Torah observance as given through Moses to Yisrael.  They seem to believe again, that they can not stop from sinning, and since Messiah has not returned to wipe out sin and evil from the world they are forever subject to committing sins till Messiah returns and restores them completely to the law of God as given Moses for Yisrael.  Since sin is lawlessness, which is lack of Torah observance.  Being made sinless to them means being made completely observant to the Torah given Moses.  Again, a gross misrepresentation of the words spoken by our Messiah.

Both are missing a key ingredient to the new covenant of the LORD as given by Yeshua.  That the Spirit dwells in us and keeps us till the day of redemption.  It is our seal, our sign, and our hope of the full redemption of our mortal bodies to eternal life.

They seem to fully ignore that the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, sent by the Holy one of Yisrael, Yeshua the King, dwells within them, now and forever.  Leading us, teaching us, and keeping us from all sin.  And when we fall and stumble, the very same Spirit of God cleans us back up, when we submit in humility. Which should be our permanent state of being anyway.

These people have not realized that we have been redeemed!!  And they do NOT walk in the ways of God or Messiah, in that they deny the very FREEDOM we have in our Messiah.  Seeking to go back, and drag as many as they can with them, into the old ways that have no meaning in the new covenant.

Our King as come, and has set us free by the blood of his covenant!!  And has brought freedom to the Gentiles as well!! To the ends of the earth!

So rejoice O daughters of Zion, Shout O daughters of Jerusalem, for behold, your King is coming to you, he is humble, and bearing salvation.  Because of the blood of your covenant I will set your prisoners free.  You prisoners of hope, today I declare I restore double to you.  He will speak peace to the nation, his dominion shall be from sea to sea, from the river to the ends of the earth. – Ted Pearce

Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war-horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall speak peace to the nations; his rule shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. 11 As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. 12 Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; today I declare that I will restore to you double.

Everyone who accepts circumcision according to the law of Moses is obligated to keep the whole law.  Paul states he is NOT still preaching circumcision (Gal5:11). And thus is not preaching being obligated to keep the whole law.  In fact he states that if he is still preaching circumcision and being obligated to keep the whole law, that this would make useless what Messiah Yeshua did for us on the cross.  Thus nullifying the new covenant he declared and ratified by dying on the cross, and shedding his blood for the remission of our sins.  So we could walk in newness of life, in union with God through Yeshua the King.

Galatians 5:1 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. 2 Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you. 3 I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law. 4 You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace.

5 For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love. 7 You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? 8 This persuasion is not from him who calls you. 9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump. 10 I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view than mine, and the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is. 11 But if I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed. 12 I wish those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves!

13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.

In Messiah Yeshua neither circumcision which leads to keeping the whole law nor uncircumcision which implies keeping nothing of the law counts for anything.  Only Faith working through love.

He who calls us is not persuading us to account the keeping of the whole law through circumcision.

We were called by the King of Yisrael to freedom.  Not to sin, but to serve one another through love.  The whole law is fulfilled in one word; “You shall love your neighbor as yourself”

Walk by the Spirit

16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

We have been set free by Yeshua the King to worship God in Spirit and in Truth.  In Love and by every Word that comes from the mouth of Yeshua, the King of Yisrael.

As Jews coming to faith in Messiah we have come out of many forms of Judaism, from ultra-orthodox, conservative, to secular.  In each case, even in the case of a gentile coming to faith, they are called as the person they are.  And being the case will ‘observe’ many traditions as they come to fuller knowledge of who they really are in Messiah.  There is nothing wrong with this.  When a Jew comes to faith in Messiah he does not lose his Jewish identity, nor does he have to reject it wholesale and become virtually naked to the world.

We retain our family traditions and culture, our worship, and our language.  But it accounts for nothing in Messiah.  Who is producing observance to the Spirit which glorifies God, and produces a life of righteousness.

Hear O Yisrael, the LORD your God is One.  And you will love him with all your heart, your mind, and your strength, and you will love others as yourself.  Against such things there is NO LAW!!!  Only faith working through Love.
