Enoch. The prophecy of the 10 weeks

prophet

Although the book of Enoch falls outside the  current canon of scripture, it is an important book that tells us a lot about the important beliefs of the early church and the Jews of that time. It has been included in the canon at times in the past and was clearly a very important book to the early Messianic believers and was usually found bound together with the Gospels and Epistles of the Early church. Many copies were found at Qumran. The authorship of the book is contested because its style changes several times through its text which would indicate more that one writer. This may be in part due to the fact that many of the early works of Judaism were preserved through an oral tradition and later put into written form. I am not a biblical scholar and have no basis to prove this, so it is then my opinion that this is the case. But the fact remains that it is without a doubt a pre- Christian writing by as much as a 200 years and was accepted by the early church as a work handed down from Enoch. The accuracy of the prophetic writings in it speak for themselves.  Many copies of Enoch was found among the Dead Sea Scrolls which date to at least 160 BCE.  Jesus himself makes reference to its teachings and uses some of the same expressions which makes you believe that He was very familiar with the book. Jude also quotes from the book as does John in the revelation:

REV 5:11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand.

Enoch LXXI 8. And I saw angels who could not be counted, A thousand thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand, encircling the house.

REV.14:20 They were trampled in the winepress outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press, rising as high as the horses’ bridles for a distance of 1,600 stadia.

In Enoch, in his vision of the battle at the judgment he says:

And the horses shall walk up to the breast in the blood of sinners, and the chariots shall be submerged up to its height.

This from the second parable of Enoch is language with a familiar ring to it:

XLVI 1. And there I saw one, who had a head of days, And His head was white like wool, And with Him was another being whose countenance had the appearance of a man, And his face was full of graciousness, like one of the holy angels. 2. And I asked the angel who went with me and showed me all the hidden things, concerning that Son of Man, who he was (and) why he went with the Holy of Days? 3. And he answered and said unto me: This is the Son of Man who hath righteousness, With whom dwelleth righteousness, And who revealeth all the treasures of that which is hidden, Because the Lord of Spirits hath chosen him, And whose lot hath the pre-eminence before the Lord of Spirits in uprightness for ever.

Here in this Jewish writing at least 200 years before His birth we see Yeshua with the father and the statement that “His lot” (His followers) have a special relationship with them both. We are that Lot.

The first know use of the term, “The son of man” a name that Jesus used of himself was from the book of Enoch. There are many more interesting things to be studied in this book but I offer just a few examples to show how well ingrained this book was in the hearts of the founders of our faith.

In the Book, Enoch gives an overview of the entire plan of God concerning the physical world and of bringing in the rule of righteousness, the Kingdom of the Messiah, and does so with a great deal of accuracy. Most of us are familiar with the lay out of the 7000 year plan as it pertains to the Jews and the coming of the Millennial Kingdom. Enoch lays it out in a ten week apocalypse. At first I was having a hard time trying to justify the two schedules but after closer examination and a little drawing of some visual aids I was able to see how they are very much alike. The basic differences lie in the inclusion of the creation week as being the first of ten and the additional two weeks that fall outside what is given to us in the revelation. I will explain as we go forward. But First lets read this very interesting portion from the book:

From the Book of Enoch: The Apocalypse of Weeks!

XCIII 1. And after that Enoch both gave and began to recount from the books.
2. And Enoch said: concerning the children of righteousness
and concerning the elect of the world,
and concerning the plant of uprightness, I will speak these things,
Yea, I Enoch, will declare them unto you, my sons;
According to that which appeared to me in the heavenly vision,
And which I have known through the word of the holy angels,
And have learnt from the heavenly tablets.
3. And Enoch began to recount from the books and said;
I was born the seventh in the first week,
While judgement and righteousness still endured.
4. And after me there shall arise in the second week great wickedness,
And deceit shall have sprung up;
And in it there shall be the first end. And in it a man shall be saved;
And after it is ended unrighteousness shall grow up;
And a law shall be made for the sinners.
5. And after that in the third week at it’s close
A man shall be elected as the plant of righteous Judgement.
And his posterity shall become the plant of righteousness for evermore.
6. And after that in the fourth week, at it’s close,
Visions of the holy and righteous shall be seen.
And a law for all generations and an enclosure shall be made for them.
7. And after that in the fifth week, at it’s close,
The house of glory and dominion shall be built for ever.
8. And after that in the sixth week all who live in it shall be blinded,
And the hearts of all of them shall godlessly forsake wisdom.
And in it a man shall ascend; and at it’s close the house of dominion shall be burnt with fire,
And the race of the chosen root shall be dispersed.
9. And after that in the seventh week shall an apostate generation arise,
and many shall be it’s deeds, And all it’s deed shall be apostate.
10. And at it’s close shall be elected The elect righteous of the eternal plant of righteousness,
To receive sevenfold instruction concerning all His creation.
[11. For who is there of all the children of men that is able to hear the voice of the Holy One without being troubled? And who can think His thoughts? And who is there that can behold all the works of heaven?
12. And how should there be one who could behold the heaven, and who is there that could understand the things of heaven and see a soul or a spirit and could tell thereof, or ascend and see all their ends and think them or do like them?
13. And who is there of all men that could know what is the breadth and the length of the earth, and to whom has been shown the measure of all of them? 14. Or is there anyone who could discern the length of the heaven and how great is it’s height, and upon what it is founded, and how great is the number of the stars, and where all the luminaries rest?]
12. And after that there shall be another, the eighth week, that of righteousness,
And a sword shall be given to it that a righteous Judgement may be executed on the oppressors,
And the sinners shall be delivered into the hands of the righteous.
13. And at it’s close they shall acquire houses through their righteousness,
And a house shall be built for the Great King in glory for evermore,
And all mankind shall look to the path of uprightness.
14. And after that in the ninth week, the righteous judgment
shall be revealed to the whole world,
And all the works of the godless shall vanish from all the earth.
And the world shall be written down for destruction.
15. And after this, in the tenth week in the seventh part,
There shall be the great eternal judgement, in which
He will execute vengeance amongst the angels.
16. And the first heaven shall depart and pass away,
and a new heaven shall appear, and all the powers of the heavens shall give sevenfold light.
17. And after that there will be many weeks without number forever.

I have always simply discounted the creation week as being a span of time that was unknown to us and therefore unable to be included in the plan for mankind. Enoch does this also but states his being the 7th born in the first week. He doesn’t address just how long a week is, as we are not talking seven days but rather a period of time, a dispensation. We know from Genesis that man was created at the ending of that week rather than at the beginning and for this reason it is not referred to in the 7000 years. So Enoch was saying, “In the beginning when God created all things including mankind, I was the seventh man from Adam being born at the end of that first period.” (week)

Having said that, the remaining weeks all appear to be  about 1000 years long in duration as we can go back and look at the historical record that was the fulfillment of this prophecy. That could mean that the first week was 1000 years as well. Scientists tell us that all the universe could have exploded into existence in about 3.5 seconds. The word of God simply says that it was created. I accept that as it is. We are all here in the universe and that is all I need to know for now.
But now lets go back and identify some of the points along Enoch’s timeline.

XCIII 1. And after that Enoch both gave and began to recount from the books. 2. And Enoch said: concerning the children of righteousness and concerning the elect of the world, and concerning the plant of uprightness, I will speak these things,This opens the section and states the subject to follow

Yea, I Enoch, will declare them unto you, my sons; According to that which appeared to me in the heavenly vision, And which I have known through the word of the holy angels, And have learnt from the heavenly tablets. Here Enoch states how it was that he came to know these things, through visions, messengers from God, and other written tablets. I would love to know what tablets he might of been referring to. Were they given by God also or were they the written record of the fallen angels that were inhabiting the earth at that time?

3. And Enoch began to recount from the books and said; I was born the seventh in the first week, While judgment and righteousness still endured. So he sets the date of his birth as being after Adam and before the wickedness which brought Gods Judgment on the earth. Apparently wickedness had already begun to spread at the time of this writing but was still rare.

4. And after me there shall arise in the second week great wickedness, And deceit shall have sprung up; And in it there shall be the first end. And in it a man shall be saved;Sometime in the early part of the second week, the first 1000 years after the creation week, evil begins to take hold and God brings an end to the earth. In other parts the coming flood is vividly foretold. And here he states “A man shall be saved” a reference to Noach the remnant of mankind.

And after it is ended unrighteousness shall grow up; And a law shall be made for the sinners. After the destruction of the earth evil will again take hold but this time there will be a law to teach men right from wrong. This is, I think the, the eternal law that resides at the core of us all. It may also be a reference to the Noah covenant.

5. And after that in the third week at it’s close A man shall be elected as the plant of righteous Judgment. And his posterity shall become the plant of righteousness for evermore.

In the third week at its close, that would be almost 2000 years after Adam. This is a clear reference to the coming of Abraham, the man who will be the father of the Jewish nation and the line from which the Messiah will come.

6. And after that in the fourth week, at it’s close, Visions of the holy and righteous shall be seen. And a law for all generations and an enclosure shall be made for them.Verse six I believe is a reference to the coming of the law and the establishment of a defined homeland, and the anointing of prophets and judges to rule over the people. Placing it at the last half of the forth week would put it at the time of these events according to the historical record.

7. And after that in the fifth week, at it’s close, The house of glory and dominion shall be built for ever. The placement of verse 7 the close of the week, would indicate the building of the Temple of God. It is also the beginning of the temple system. It would show the close of the fifth week to be the time when the pharisees became the center of Jewish society.

The sixth week is a busy week and has many things of importance. We begin this week by noting that people had become blinded to the things of God. It brings to mind the criticism that Jesus had for the Pharisees and how they were blind teachers who laid the burden of law and guilt upon people making their lives and their relationship with God almost impossible. The Jews had also become largely Rabbinical, so that all their knowledge of God was second hand. I see the same thing happening in the church. We have become a people that will rely on someone else to inquire of God and to do our praying for us. “If it’s important, the preacher will tell us about it!” The problem with that is that the preacher may not be doing all that he should. I have to say that you can see more about the coming of Christ in the tabloids at the checkout stand than you will get from most churches.

8. And after that in the sixth week all who live in it shall be blinded, And the hearts of all of them shall godlessly forsake wisdom. This forsaking of wisdom, blinded them, and allowed the rejection of the Messiah. But this could be a reference to the “Tempoary blinding” of the jews until the fulness of the Gentiles comes in.

And in it a man shall ascend; The Ascension of the Lord Jesus.

and at it’s close the house of dominion shall be burnt with fire, And the race of the chosen root shall be dispersed. This is a reference to the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD and the scattering of the Jews. Notice that all this is to take place in the Sixth week, at the beginning of the week which would be at the correct time for these events.

9. And after that in the seventh week shall an apostate generation arise, and many shall be it’s deeds, And all it’s deed shall be apostate. Here we are. An Apostate generation in the 7th week. The time line for that week would begin at 1000 AD. This is a perfect description of the world as we have seen it. I think there is reason to believe that since this Apostate Generation begins at about the time the advent of scientific thought.  Many new accomplishments, new inventions and mighty feats, but all of it to the glory of mans achievement and not to the Glory of God. Man has forgotten God and become cold and apostate. Ah, the great “Falling away” that will happen prior to the Lords return. It’s not just the church, or the Jews who have fallen away. Enoch was a prophet of God to all men before there even was a Jewish race much less a church. The whole earth has become ungodly. But now Enoch moves us to the very close of that week.

[ This is where the “You Are Here” sign gets hung. ]

10. And at it’s close shall be elected The elect righteous of the eternal plant of righteousness, To receive sevenfold instruction concerning all His creation.

To be elected means to be “called out” for a special purpose. To be separated for a special reason. Those who are being called out are the elect righteous of the eternal plant of Righteousness. Yeshua, Jesus, the eternally righteous and we who have been called by Him and saved by Him are the Elect. And we are being called out to receive a sevenfold instruction concerning His creation. When the scripture says a sevenfold measure it means you will be receiving it straight from God. I do hope that you notice that this is placed time wise before the end of the 7th week, before the 8th week begins, at the turn of the year 2000 AD or perhaps shortly there after.

Seeing how all the previous events, like the flood, the birth of Abraham, the coming of the promised homeland, the Temple, the coming of the one who would ascend, the destruction of the Temple and the dispersal of the people all happened as the prophecy had indicated and at the correct times, we should take these next verses very serious. We are entering the week of our own days.

The next section extols the glory of the knowledge of the Lord and what will be shared with us. Only those who have received their resurrection bodies could be in the presence of God and understand these things that will be taught.  This is the vision of 10 weeks. In other parts of the book he goes into more detail about the blessings of the righteous both Jew and Gentiles, and the judgment that will come upon the sinners. And in each case it is handled this way. The righteous are blessed and then the wicked are punished.

The Eighth week begins  some time after the turn of the year 2000 using the past events as a gauge. This week is the beginning of the Millennial Kingdom of God, on earth. We see the third temple built and a time of Justice and righteousness on the earth. It speaks clearly for itself.

12. And after that there shall be another, the eighth week, that of righteousness, And a sword shall be given to it that a righteous Judgment may be executed on the oppressors, And the sinners shall be delivered into the hands of the righteous. 13. And at it’s close they shall acquire houses through their righteousness, And a house shall be built for the Great King in glory for evermore, And all mankind shall look to the path of uprightness.
We know from Johns revelation and from the missing 70th week of Daniel that the kingdom is 1000 years on the earth. But it seems that according to Enoch, that 1000 years will be a time for training and bringing the gentile nations under the knowledge and authority of the Lord. We see that same training process in Zechariah:

ZEC 14:16 Then the survivors from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the LORD Almighty, and to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. [17] If any of the peoples of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD Almighty, they will have no rain. [18] If the Egyptian people do not go up and take part, they will have no rain. The LORD* will bring on them the plague he inflicts on the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.

It is after this 1000 years that Satan will be loosed again to gather up all those who have fallen away. This 1000 years will show that mankind , even when the devil is bound and out of the picture, is able to fall into sin and to rebel against the Lord God.

REV 20:7 When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison [8] and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth–

REV.20 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. [6] Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.
14. And after that in the ninth week, the righteous judgment shall be revealed to the whole world, And all the works of the godless shall vanish from all the earth. And the world shall be written down for destruction.

The ninth week about 3000 AD. at the beginning of the week A final end to godless men.

REV 20:11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. [12] And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. [13] The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. Also the destruction of the earth is planned or announced.

15. And after this, in the tenth week in the seventh part, There shall be the great eternal judgment, in which He will execute vengeance amongst the angels.

Now we see another 1000 year period that was not defined in the Revelation of John. After all the evil works are done away with and Satan and all sinners have been eliminated we will begin another 1000 year period living in the presence of God. It is at the end of this week in the 7th part, that the angels who have been bound will receive their judgment.

Jude 6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home–these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.
16. And the first heaven shall depart and pass away, and a new heaven shall appear, and all the powers of the heavens shall give sevenfold light.

REV 21:1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. [2] I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. [3] And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. [4] He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

The old order of things has passed away. The earth is no longer under any influence of Satan or evil men or Sin of any kind. We are all in a glorified body like that which Adam had in the beginning when he walked with God in the garden. We will be free from all sin and sorrow and will live with Him forever.

17. And after that there will be many weeks without number forever.

This is the end of the Apocalypse of the ten weeks. As you can see, like all the prophecies of God it is coming to pass exactly as it was supposed to. God is still in charge. Here we have yet another word from God that this is the time all the world has been waiting for. The great apostasy has come and we are in the end of the seventh week, the time that the “elect righteous of the eternal plant of righteousness” will be called so that the judgment against sin can begin. What a time to be alive! The church has not seen much of this book by Enoch, because of it’s being excluded from the canon of scriptures, and the world doesn’t even know who Enoch is. But for those of us who have read this fascinating Jewish writing, there seems to be many confirmations to it’s validity as an inspired writing given by the Lord.  It is easy to see why the two books Revelation and  Enoch have always been contested by the church. Both have been  in and out of the canon at various times.  These are the two most important books given especially to those who would be living in the last days, during the Tribulation and who would witness to return of Messiah.

I agree entirely. My wife found my Book of Enoch that I had lost for years, I opened it, read the fall of the angels and the history of the world (Bulls, Sheep, Ravens etc.) then came to the ten weeks of Enoch. I read it astounded, and God opened my understanding to realised we were in the seventh week!

When I read your post, I could not find anything I disagreed with from my own understanding given to me. We are definitely in the seventh week – how far from the end? Only God knows. If the Book of Revelations describes the end of the Seventh week as when the Beast from the Sea appears (Revelations 13), I hope we are a long way from the end of this week, because that is a terrible time to be on the Earth. I’d rather not be here for that! And wouldn’t wish it upon anyone.

Thanks for the confirmation. You know, I think that the book of Enoch was such a powerful book that Satan did everything possible to destroy it from the beginning. What a victory for him. And what a blessing to us who rediscover Enoch and take heed to it’s warnings and teachings. In the early church, Enoch was usually read along with the Gospels and usually found bound together. And it was important understand that was needed for those who would be alive in the time of tribulation at the end of the age.

Reblogged this on Dem Bones and commented:
The following passage from the Book of Enoch definitely sums up how the upright and righteous are to separate themselves from the ways of this evil, condemned and utterly fallen and forsaken world (order); “And fear not, ye righteous, when you see the sinners growing strong and prospering in their ways: be not companions with them, but keep far from their violence; for ye shall become companions of the hosts of heaven”.

Thank you so much that is the best explanation of the 10 weeks of Enoch that I have heard so far, and I do think you are correct. The creation week has 7 days not 10 and there is where I was misunderstanding Enoch’s 10 week. I did not realized he was going so far into the future past creation week. So glad I found your post, thank you.

    Hi,

I am thinking that the elect whose posterity is Christ actually refers to David. I think, also, that each week represents 1,000 years, and if taken exactly as such, this lines up precisely with the weeks that have already come to pass when you do the history and math.

The scary thing, though, is that we are probably still in the sixth week, meaning we are blinded…either that or we just came out of it and are now the apostate generation!

I think either way, it is clear that the elect and many end time events are a long way off.
